There is a kind of stark beauty in the woods this time of year. A sunny day like today with fairly mild temperatures, softens the sense of loss that can accompany these solstice days. The warmth of sunlight on my face was reassuring. Only 3 more days 'til the happy knowledge that the Sun starts north once again.

I like to sit outside out of the wind and close my eyes with the sun on my face and imagine it's springtime. Not so hard to do with the current mild temps!
Laura, that's lovely and that's precisely what I did today after taking that picture.
Great picture!
It is bright and sunny out here in eastern Montana today. I am hoping to get some photos, but work has been hectic and I'm trying to get ready for Christmas so I'm not sure I will.
Speaking of Christmas, we are celebrating a day early because my son has to return to Colorado Monday, but I don't mind, I'm just thrilled that he will be here!
Oh, the sunshine there is a comfort! Today, now, I must go for a walk just to get warm! Bitterly cold here today in the Pacific Northwest.
Warmest regards ~ Bonita
Bonita! It's so good to hear from you - now I'll check your blog again. Stay warm - be well.
dmmgmfm - Have a wonderful visit with your precious son - and try like me, not to let the Christmas rush diminish this beautiful season. Hard to do, I know :0)
It was quite lovely here today -- the 19th. I think I'm ready to welcome winter now.
Cathy, I'm so enjoying your entries. They remind me of Thoreau's journals. Thank you!
Oh Patrice - Thoreau - Just yesterday evening I was trying to explain to my husband the beauty, depth, complexity of the man's writing. I daily approach his 'Blog' with the hope and reverance of a supplicant pilgrim - With happy anticipation of great wisdom and mystery revealed.
AC - OK - You welcome winter - I guess I understand - the crystalline miracle of frozen water - clear starlit nights - yes, even the moon on the breast of the new fallen snow.
I will love this, too. But in my heart stirs a dream of Spring.
