Pelicans

"Oh, a wondrous bird is the pelican!
His bill holds more than his belican.
He can take in his beak
Enough food for a week.
But I'm darned if I know how the helican."

Dixon Lanier Merritt
(1879-1972)

Addendum :0)

You've said such nice things. I've gotta tell you these pixes were dumb luck.
These pelicans were feeding right beneath the fish pier on Sanibel.
The light was perfect. It only happened once in the 3 weeks we've been here. Luck
.

How up close and personal did you get with these birds. It has been a long time since I heard that rhyme. Take care.

Tom stole my comment--so I will just say AWESOME photos. Understand, awesome is NOT a word I use often.
Glad to know you are still perking along.
I would have guessed the ditty was an Ogden Nash. Huh!

So funny, Cathy! I learned on Jack Hanna's show that a pelican can hold 2 gallons of water in that bill or beak or pouch. Thanks for sharing!

Hey Tom -
Thanks! Good to see you here. I'd say you need to get yourself to Pelican Country!

Jen -

Oh yes - I can hear him reciting it. I think Mom said that Ducky Rock taught it to him :0)

Ruth -

VEERRRYYY close :0) Right above 'em.
I think there are variations on the rhyme - some a bit 'saltier' ;-D

Donna -

Thank you! What would we do without google? I've got sooo much more stuff in my brain because of it. Hmmmm. Not that it's of much use ;0)

Three Collie-

Hey! Coming from someone who gets 'fabulous' photos . . THANK YOU!
It's kinda hard to get a bad photo down here - to be honest.

Mary -

Thank YOU! I'm not surprised about that 2 gallons. The REAL stunner is watching these birds slam into the water time after time. If there were bird chiropractors they'd be raking it in ;-D
