Taking a Break
You know that the birding is winding down when you see binoculars pointed at a birder's toes. What a sad state of affairs. I couldn't have posted this picture in good conscience if this fellow hadn't covered his face. I just love the way he's so uninhibited. Gals - how many of you could sprawl on a picnic table like this for any amount of money? Maybe it's just me that's all hung up?
Anyway, now we have to ferret out the nesting birds and content ourselves with peony bloom, cumulus clouds that are producing less rain then we'd like and the endless job of tugging away at those audacious weeds that are so much easier to uproot after a good soaking.
Like Lynne at Hasty Brook - I'm taking a break, but will continue to check in on all my fellow bloggers. (Happily - Lynne is back:0) I'm betting a lot of us are feeling the multiple pulls of family obligations, yard work, travel plans and the need to be outside basking in gratitude for having that long winter behind us. Hmmmm?
It's so great to have the windows open.

LOL! What a funny picture! No, I wouldn't be caught dead stretched out with my shirt gaping like that. Enjoy your break Cathy. Summer gets so busy, some times we all need to take a deep breath and let go.
Enjoy the hiatus. I can't believe that it will be very long.
Nope, I wouldn't stretch out on a table like that either, especially with stomach skin exposed like that.
I hope you enjoy your break. I'll be here when you get back!
Hey-I think that's my uncle bud-I'm telling!
Great photo, Cathy. I would rather be beaten with a club than strike THAT pose in public.
You should come visit here, the birds are just now showing up. If I ever get my work caught up (as if) I'll take some photos.
I'll miss you while you are gone, but enjoy your hiatus.
Hugs,
Laurie
Amen for open windows! I love the warm, fragrant air wafting through my home and the sound of bird song.
The photo's great!
Enjoy your break. AC and I will be taking one too. We are off to visit Lady Bug and Power Puff and will be away for most of June. We hope to post some travel blogs though, so will see how that goes.
This is the perfect time of year to be taking a break. I hope you'll make the most of it and spend as many hours outdoors as you can. Each day, I've noticed the volume of the birdsong and the number of insects and spiders growing and I've felt a corresponding desire to be in the thick of it. Today was one of those "wow" days when I suddenly remember what it's *really* like when summer arrives. Somehow, I manage to forget just how much life there is "out there". Enjoy your hiatus, but be sure to capture some of the best moments with your camera. (-:
Enjoy your nap on the picnic table time!
O my goodness! You will never catch me doing that! Well I will try not to let anyone see me doing that!
You and I are on the same wave-length. My husband caught me sleeping out on the back porch after a long week of gardening, and I had to post his photo. Yes, he leaves most of this work to me....and this year I'm simplifying. Going to do shrubs. I'm hoping a few birds will stop by. Enjoy the break-time, Cathy. I know just how you feel!
Giggles! Enjoy your break, Cathy. I'll miss your posts. And I know what you are saying. This is my first spring-summer at blogging and I just can't keep up. There's so much to see and report on and I want to read..every..word..of..every..post but I find myself speed reading. I hate speed reading.
I'll be checking on your return. Enjoy!
Thanks for visiting, Cathy. You're welcome anytime!
I'm just finding your site now, too, and apparently we have a rural, Ohio connection.
I like your poetry--(the crickets in the hedge)
I'll be a frequent visitor here!
