Screech Owl
Dandelions and Tree Shadow
Blossoms
Star Trails
Let's face it friends. We are over-whelmed with BEAUTY. We are falling head-long into SPRING, trying to record with all our senses (and cameras:0) the light, delight, feathers, blossoms, perfume, green, breeze and ease for which we've waited SO LONG.
We're trying to share the joy with one another and respond adequately to all the beauty sifting around our immediate environs and that that our blogging buddies are sifting through cyberspace. Frankly, we're struggling to pay adequate homage to the bravura goings-on.
Here's my solution: Tom over at Mon@arch's Nature Blog is a busy naturalist who's recording his delight as birds and critters return to his neighborhood. As is the practice of birders when we spot our first individual of a a given species for the season or the day - we go: CHECK! - as in "Got It!" Well - inspired by Tom's enthusiastic "CHECKS!' I came up with the following idea.
OK. When you drop by my blog and you see something that 'clicks' - read something that 'resonates' - just say "CHECK!" I'll know you got it - that your heart said, "Yeah, Cathy's nailed that one." Now, please, don't get me wrong, dears. There isn't anything that pleases me more than the kind, funny and insightful remarks you make at the end of my attempts to capture something in pictures or words.
But I figure this season is so fleeting and I think I know your hearts pretty well - so it'll be just nice to know you stopped by and thought enough to say, "Check!"

Oh Cathy,
I know my son Josh, who is 13, would love to say CHECK to Magee Marsh. He is an avid birder born in Cincinnati OH but now we reside in the desert of the southwest. We haven't been back home and he is just going nuts thinking of the birds he could see. He recently met a woman birding here in Las Vegas and found out she was from Ohio. He was then blown away when she told him she birds Magee Marsh and knows and has been birding with Ken Kaufman and Greg Miller (both now of the Ohio area), two of his "heroes". Needless to say we are visiting vicariously through your blog and wonderful pictures. Thanks so much for a sharing. A CHECK for us today was a migrating Wilson's Warbler in our backyard! Beautiful!

"Check"
(But I love that you found that screech owl napping and looking for all the world like part of a tree trunk.)
You are so right - I don't know which way to look or where to spend my time right now (other than NOT at work) - there are so many beautiful things to see!
CHECK!
I agree with Laura--the screech owl is great--it looks like he's trying just a bit to hide.
Check to all these great shots!
Very artsy and natural at the same time.
Well done.
Check! You rock, Cathy. Happy Spring.
CHECK!! Love that litle owl.
CHECK!
(Sorry, Cathy, Mary can't do "one word" comments...LOL!!!!)
Nice post and I agree with your assessment of our state of minds lately.
Check-There's suddenly so much to soak in.
Check! Check!
Like others, I can't miss commenting on that owl.

Check that owl! Greta shot, and he blends into the tree so well.
Check! I do have to laugh, though. With my double vision on my walks, I see two squirrels where there really is only one. They chase together, dart up similar trees, and chatter in one little voice. Abundant wildlife, you say - indeed.
Just found you. Check!!!
CHECK!!! But just one word? Eek!
Can't do it. I had to look twice before I saw the owl, great shot!
Been trying to leave a comment for several days. Just couldn't for some reason. Your photos always deserve recognition. A big check
Check, check, check, check, check!
Loved the photos and thoughts. Thank you for this treat before I head off to bed.
Rock a bye baby....
Check! That's a gorgeous photo of the Screech Owl - had to mention it in particular, but all of your bird photos (and other photos too, for that matter) are wonderful. And "yes" to feeling a little scattered at the moment. I haven't really been keeping up with things very well. Too much happening outdoors, too much bioblitzing and spring cleaning around here. Add that to the world's slowest dial-up connection, and it makes for a lot of wandering about from blog to blog in a state of confusion. Like I say about almost everything in life... "Oh welllll!!!" (-:
CHECK - Little behind on visiting everyones post! Love your photos and thanks for linking to my site!! Nothing makes us birders happiers than when we see that bird for the first time!!! Love your photos and for sure I get it! CHECK
Check! Like Barb, I think I also saw a Wilson's Warbler in my our backyard--couldn't believe it! Happy Spring!
Hi Cathy - I tried to post a "check" on your Watched and Being Watched post but the comment button doesn't seem to be on, so thought I would send you a "check" this way.
Love the frog pic!
