Nature's Stained Glass

This is the newly emerged dragonfly that inspired last week's "What Is This Post?"
I'm a neophyte regarding dragonflies. If anyone wants to ID this - I'd surely appreciate it.

OK, gang! What are we looking at here? I've photo-shopped it a titch. Saturated the colors a smidge. The winner gets to gloat about their exceptional deducing skills.

I was going to say stained glass. LOL!!

It's pretty...that about exhausts my deductive skills...but it is VERY pretty!

Anvilcloud said...

Well, I thought dragonfly too, but then I though, no.

Since Tom & Lynne did the hard part, I will just enjoy the beauty.
What, no poem to accompany it? You have spoiled me.

Susan Gets Native said...

Is that the Blue Dasher you showed us a few days ago?

Cathy said...

Laurie -

I agree. Welcome home ;0)

Three Collie -

Thank you. My deductive skills are severely diminished by this heat.

AC -

Well - how come you changed your mind?. Did I tweak it a notch too far?

Donna -

You're very kind. I 'spare' the teacher - so as to not 'spoil' my image. Doggerel, lately - just doggerel. Thanks.

Susan -

I'm a neophyte with these dragonflies. I think you're right - Blue Dasher

Dang, I thought you were taking up stained glass. :)

Cathy said...

Hey, Rurality!

This is soooo much easier. You don't slice your fingers up and it's suitable for hanging ;0)

Bummer, I'm too late to play! But it's very cool!

Cathy said...

Pam -

Isn't it pretty? I'm glad you dropped in to admire it :0)

Oh Cathy, what a beautiful picture! At first I thought stained glass too, but then looked a little longer and closer and realized it was a dragonfly wing too.

Mary said...

Hey, I missed the party!

I was going to say stained glass. Where's the poem to go with it?
Tee-hee...

Pam said...

Darn, I stop by to late. But I did think stained-glass dragonfly. Then butterfly, and back to dragonfly.

Bonita said...

Wish I had a pendent with these colors and patterns. It would cost a fortune. So lovely.

Cathy said...

Ruthie -

Thank you! Isn't it pretty :-) And you guessed right!

Mary -

Never too late for this party, Luv! Alas the muse has wilted and vaporized into this SWELTERING heat..

Pam -

Like I told Mary, Luv - never too late for coming to my party. All guests and all guesses welcome here - early or late :0) And you join the ranks of the winning guessers!

Bonita -

I knew your artist's eye would find this much more than dragonfly wing. Thank you :O)

I was going to guess a dragonfly wing! Really, I was!

Larry said...

Looks like I'm too late-In all honesty, I wouldn't have guessed dragonfly wing.-Pretty cool!

R.Powers said...

Beautiful.
I have a similar wingshot whose architecture just amazes me.

Cathy said...

Sandy -

Cutie! I believe you :0)

Larry -

Never too late to drop in and say 'Hi' :0)
In all honesty - before I started looking at these critters this summer - I'd not have guessed correctly either.

FC -

Thanks! I used to run from these bugs. Now I'm in hot pursuit:0)

I would not rule out Martha's Pennant, or Amanda's Pennant. I don't know where you live, but Martha's Pennant would be along the East coast, from Nova Scotia to Virginia, while Amanda's inhabits the coast from NC to LA. Let me know if either fits. I'm new to dragonflies, too, but have the wonderful book, Dragonflies through Binoculars.
Thanks for the camera info. And the amazing stained-glass wing.

I'm up here in Toledo. Thanks for the help. I'll google Amanda's Pennant and see what's out there. I do need a book. Yours sounds good.
