Imperious Tree

Bev at Burning Silo keeps posting informative and whimsical pieces. Her latest about trees with interesting sizes, shapes and histories reminded me of a tree I photographed the autumn before last in our local metroparks. He really had an attitude that I couldn't resist. I had a little spare time on my hands so I dropped a bird on his cheek to give him something to pout about. (Long-time blogging friends may remember this :0)

Now, this inspires me. On my daily walk I pass by an old narled tree, just huge, and as I pass I always greet him, and stand and look him over. He has a sprig of holly growing out of one of the cracks in his bark, and I've been soooooo tempted to place a little offering in it's niche. His roots have raised the cement on the walkway, and I'm a little afraid that he might be cut down, as families are pulling these big old trees down. I hope this tree will stay.....Bonita

Bonita - there is such a special sense around trees. I hope you'll leave an offering in the niche. Take a picture and share it :0)

I think an Ent lives in many of the trees I have encountered in my lifetime. I must hunt around in my photo album to see if I can find a picture of The Crowe River Ent, The Menopause Entwife, The Opera Singer, The Colours of Riverwood and The Guardians of Sarnia. Once I round them up I will try to post a few pics on my blog later this month.

We are off to Riverwood early tomorrow morning to ring in the New Year with my Sister and her family. We will be back next week. Talk to you again then.

Thinking about some of my favorite trees reminds me of this Gibran quote.

"Trees are poems that the earth writes upon the skies..."

Great pic - he does have something to frown about now!

Bev - Better pecked than chopped :0)

Cuppa - Do look for your tree photos - this is fun. The Gibran saying is so lovely. Have a safe and happy trip :0)

Laura - I had fun giving him a reason to be grumpy. I'm no artist - so I'm pleased that people recognize my attempt as a 'bird'.

I think this tree is a cousin to the apple trees in the Wizard of Oz. Yep, a definite family resemblance - better watch out!

Swamp4me! That's where I'd seen that barky mien before. OOOhhh. Scary.
