Remember Snow?

That's my kid-brother holding the ladder. It's the day after Christmas - 2004. That's snow. That's winter. That's lovely - and (lordy, I'm showing my age with this admission) - I don't miss it. I keep thinking I've got to reflect a little more on the poetry inspired by snow - the romance of it - the quiet still sparkling wonder of it.

Nope. It's just not working. I took my van through the car wash today. It was 53'. I was hatless, gloveless, bootless, coatless and yes - snowless. I love it . Waaaaahhh. I'm old. I've gone over to the dark side. Oh, well - guess I'll walk outside in my slippers and enjoy the full moon. (Oh, yes. I'm up on the ladder trying to photograph an ice-festooned bird's nest)

Boy - can I relate! I've been chipping away at the 3-4 inches of compacted snow/ice on the driveway for the last couple days (55+ degrees) and finally have the driveway clear. But, oy, the mess in this town! Many of the main roads are missing a full lane in each direction due to the mounds of dirty snow plowed there (the girls say it looks like dog poop!). And the three weeks worth of garbage piled up at the end of the driveway has taken on an odor unlike anything I've experienced or care to experience again! And - we're expecting another 1 - 5 inches tomorrow! Enough already!

I love the picture though. You and Bob look like you're in one of those King family Christmas specials about to break into song. What a perfectly beautiful winter day and backdrop. Can I get a copy?

Jen! Wow. Can't believe that snow is hanging on like that. More on the way? Whoa. Well I'm N.I.M.B.Y on snow this year:0) Hahahahaha - King family Christmas!
That's us!

No, no, no, no, no. I don't agree. I WANT SNOW. Today, in central PA, it is r-a-i-n-i-n-g, not snowing. And tomorrow temps are predicted to reach 70. January, for goodness' sake, in central PA. If I wanted to live in bloody Florida (or wherever else) I would. I guess I'll have to move to. . .where? With global climate change?

We also had a lot of snow around Christmas of that year. I remember posting quite a few in December and January -- lots of chickadees too.

Kgmom - Don't despair - Hopefully this aberration is El Nino-induced rather than evidence of the distressing global climate concerns.
Perhaps at this time next year I'll be posting about 6 foot drifts as my kid-sis in Colorado Springs has been doing.

AnvilCloud - I MISS my birds! This mild weather has them scattered hither and yon foraging amongst the snowless boughs and branches for nature's windfall.

There is no snow to be found here in Absarokee either and it's quite balmy. We were down by the river until dark last night and I only had a light jacket on.

Love the picture. You two are adorable.

Laurie - I was certain a place with as western a name as Absarokee would have mountainous snow - unending vistas of ocean white. (What's happening down by the river at night?)

Cathy, The river was gorgeous tonight. Some ice on the edges and a lot floating. I should have taken my camera but it was a spur of the moment trip. I'm going to go again tomorrow and take some pictures for you.

This afternoon, I was just thinking of how nice it is for the cattle, horses and llamas on the neighbouring farms as they're all out wandering around grazing in the green fields. I've certainly never seen anything like that in January before!
