Crocus Culprit

If you were wondering where some of your crocus had disappeared to . . . I caught this little fellow in the act during my walk through the botanical gardens. Note the stamen toothpick in the top photo. I guess you can't blame a fellow for wanting a little salad after a winter of nuts.

How adorable!

I knew squirrels liked to eat bulbs, but not that they also liked to eat the flowers.

It looks so sweet - thanks for making my evening.

Cathy,

Sorry, I had to laugh. Why do they munch on the elite food (Green Giant vs. store brand)?

Crocus? Is this a crocus? What's a Crocus? Nice color. Thank you!

Squirrels are bad enough, but, then there are the wild rabbits...grrrr.

I love to laugh before bedtime. Thanks!

Those are the cutest photos ever! Thanks for making my day!

Great pictures! do they like hyacinths too? Mine got eaten off just before they opened. I was thinking bunny, dog, but not squirrel.

Y'all ! I'd hoped you'd get a smile from this gourmand. Funny how my perspective has changed with age. I think I've relinquished some essential sense of control over my universe so that now I might wince a titch, but it doesn't make me crazed as it used to. I actually used to put chicken wire over the emerging fern fiddle heads to protect them from the squirrels.

Laura - Crazy thing is they DON'T eat daffodil bulbs, but they'll sure dig them up. At least I don't think they do. Hmmm. More research.

Mary - Oh, yeah - they're going for the fancy brands. I'm starting to re-think my notion that we NEED rabbits in our neighborhood. Hmmmm.

Laurie - I makes me happy to think I could have brought you a smile.

BSP - I'll bet your guess is right about 'bunny' thief. Our hyacinth remain unaccosted and we don't have squirrels.

Toooooooo cute!

It is pouring rain here this morning, but you just brought a little sunshine into the mix. Thanks for the morning smile.

Body Soul Spirit - I mean: we don't have "bunnies" - we have plenty of squirrels.

AC - Thanks - he is cute :0)

Cuppa - May your rain bring bloom and flowers in abundance! ( I'll bet you're enjoying a nice cup of coffee:0)

Oh, my, your photos are spectacular! Spring is much farther along where you are than here, but I am sure it will arrive here soon...or at least I hope so~

Oh, these photos are incredible! No flowers for lunch here...in a few weeks, I hope.

The deer ate my holly bushes at camp, I am very dissapointed. They were a gift and I've been tending to them for three years, but I understand their hunger.

Everything seems to be coming out of hibernation, with a feeding frenzy. Your little critters have good taste in salad greens.

Cathy said...

Three Collie - Well, I'm afraid Spring is on hold here for a bit, now. Hope the daffodils can hold on.

Pam - Ow. Losing the holly had to hurt. I guess there are plants that deer won't forage on, but I don't know what they are.

Bonita - Yes, everyone's hungry - the squirrels were actually climbing up my patio screen door trying to get the peanuts out of their bin. I guess squirrels really have a good sense of smell.

Your little furry friend doesn't appear to be the least bit remorseful...he's just happy that it gave so many of us a good chuckle.!

What a great closeup of the squirrel. Since my dog goes nuts and barks like crazy, the squirrels scatter around our house.
I think the squirrel who ate your crocus is already wa-a-a-y fat.

Ginnie - Spring is the season for gluttony - We save remorse for Fall:0D

Kgmom -My squirrels are the fattest squirrels in Ohio. They were hanging off the screen door today - trying to get in to find the stash of peanuts. I've created several fuzzy 'cute' monsters.

Those are some excellent pix. I had a salad for lunch today, and while there was a lot of stuff in it, I don't think there were any stamens.

Pablo - No stamens? Perhaps a delectable anther sneaked in there.

Great shots! Glad they are not my flowers, though. We have seen woodchucks eat flowers in our garden like this.

Cathy said...

Sandy - No kidding? Flower-eating Woodchucks. Awwww. I'll bet they look cute whilst they're nibbling away:0)

Oooooh... these pictures are cute. I was cranky and grumpy when I came home tonight. Now I'm smiling ... thank you for that!
